Fences
Every game rancher knows the importance of a good fence!
It not only keeps your valuable animals on your game ranch, but fences also keep unwanted animals out. This is important, as you would not otherwise be able get exemption on your game ranch that allows you to properly breed and manage you game ranch in a financially viable manner.
It is always worth it to use the best materials affordable for a game ranch fence, especially when one of the big six is present on the game ranch.

The general height of  a game ranch fence is 2.4-3meters high with 21 or more strands of  steel wire that are placed closer at the bottom then at the top.  The strands are placed 20-50mm from the ground and the strands are then placed 125mm apart up until 1.5 meter. From there the strands are placed at a maximum of 150mm apart until the top is reached.

The anchor and straining posts need to be planted deep and secure to prevent the fence from pulling skew. Struts should also be anchored in place to prevent the posts from being pulled over when wire is being tightend.

Planting post with concrete anchor
When digging the hole for the fencepost, make sure the hole is dug square and is wider to the bottom of the hole. Ensure that the hole is at least 600mm x 600mm at the bottom with an overall depth of at least 600mm. Attach pegs to the bottom of the post that is going to be in the hole, to prevent the post from twisting and turning in the concrete.
Place the fence post in the hole and pour the concrete into the hole. Leave to set for a week or more and build your fence.  It is always a good idea to put struts onto the posts as well.

Warthogs
If warthogs are destroying your fence, attach hanging logs over their crossing path with chains. This will allow the warthog to pass through the fence but prevent other animals to do so.
